The Province of Ontario has established a network of International Marketing Centres in key business centres around the world for the promotion of its trade and investment interests. Since early 2002, Ontario has opened offices in New York, Munich, Shanghai, New Delhi, Tokyo, Beijing, Paris, London, Los Angeles and Mexico City, all of them located within the Canadian diplomatic missions in those cities. An exciting opportunity now exists for a dynamic leader to continue to build upon the successes of the Los Angeles office.
Reporting to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, Ontario’s Senior Economic Officer in Los Angeles will promote the business interests of the Province of Ontario, as they relate to investment and trade; serve as the face of Ontario in government-to-government and government-to-business interactions; build partnerships and leverage resources; provide commercial intelligence and strategic advice from a market of major importance to the Province; and otherwise bring together people and opportunities that will contribute to the Province’s economic development and prosperity.
As a self-starter with a demonstrated ability to straddle the worlds of business and government, you have a deep knowledge and appreciation of international business issues and trends, a profound understanding of Ontario’s international economic position and priorities, and the strategic know-how to lead an Ontario International Marketing Centre in such a way as to reinforce Ontario’s international brand as a leading global business destination. Your familiarity with the U.S. economy and business community - combined with a demonstrated facility in, and commitment to, high-level client service, an ability to build and leverage strategic relationships, and a commitment to working in an international environment that requires diplomacy and political acuity – will be integral to your ability to identify opportunities, translate strategic priorities into tangible and measurable deliverables, and generate economic benefits for the Province of Ontario. As a proud Canadian citizen, and with the ability to obtain Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) clearance and medical clearance, you have the passion and commitment to represent Ontario through a three-year contract posting that represents a special lifetime experience, both professionally and personally.
